In a gesture of mutual support, Texas ranchers are sending hay to Wyoming to help ranchers affected by the devastating wildfires of 2024, Wyoming News Now reports.

Earlier in the year, Wyoming ranchers had assisted Texas by providing hay when fires ravaged the Texas Panhandle, and now Texas is returning the favor.

“When we were in need and desperately looking for help, they rose to the call and helped us out. So, we want to do the same,” said Amy Houston Gaddis, Director of Rancher Navy, a Texas-based nonprofit dedicated to supporting agricultural communities impacted by natural disasters.

The Rancher Navy is spearheading the effort, organizing the collection and transportation of hay donated by Texas ranchers. Gaddis explained that while obtaining hay donations has been relatively easy, the primary challenge has been covering transportation costs, particularly fuel, and securing vehicles to deliver the hay. The organization is focusing much of its efforts on overcoming these logistical hurdles.

The hay shipments are set to begin arriving in Wyoming within the next few days and will continue as long as supplies are available. The hay will be distributed across the state to ranchers most in need, helping to sustain livestock during these difficult times.
