Wyoming is among the states impacted by a nationwide recall of approximately 12 million pounds of ready-to-eat chicken products that may be contaminated with listeria, Cowboy State Daily reports.
The recall involves various frozen meals and other poultry products, including items sold under popular brands such as Walmart’s Great Value, Member’s Mark, and Taylor Farms.
The Oregon-based company, BrucePac, which promotes itself as having “a passion for protein,” initiated the recall after discovering potential listeria contamination in several of its prepared poultry products. The Wyoming Department of Agriculture announced Thursday that at least nine affected brands are known to be distributed in Wyoming.
The recalled products include:
- Great Value frozen meals with chicken
- Taylor Farms salads containing chicken
- Member’s Mark Chicken Alfredo, Hatch Chile Chicken Enchilada Club, and Southwest Style Salad
- Atkins and Michelina’s branded frozen dinners made by Bellisio Foods
- Udi’s Gluten-Free Grilled Chicken Alfredo made by ConAgra Foods
- Rana Meals Fettuccine Chicken Alfredo
- Bistro28 and Don Pancho meal kits containing chicken from Reser’s Fine Foods
The recall is not limited to these brands, and more products may be added to the list as the investigation continues. Affected products have been distributed nationwide to various retailers, schools, restaurants, and institutions.
In addition to the brands known to be in Wyoming, other brands potentially involved in the recall include major names like 7-Eleven, Amazon Fresh, Boston Market, Trader Joe’s, Kroger, and Fresh Express. The recall spans a wide range of retail outlets, making it important for consumers to check their purchased goods carefully.
Listeria is a serious foodborne pathogen that can cause life-threatening illness, especially in vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, stiff neck, confusion, and loss of balance. In some cases, the illness can be fatal, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
If you have purchased any of the recalled products, it is advised to return them to the place of purchase or safely dispose of them. A complete list of recalled items is available online for consumers to review.
Wyoming residents are urged to stay vigilant and ensure the safety of their food supplies during this expanding recall.
