Further Probe into Death of Former One Direction Star Liam Payne

The circumstances surrounding the death of former One Direction singer Liam Payne, who was found dead at the age of 31 after falling from the third floor of the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, are currently under investigation, CNN reports.

According to the public prosecutor’s office in Argentina, Payne was alone when the fall occurred. The investigation is focusing on the possibility that Payne, who had publicly discussed his struggles with addiction and mental health, may have been experiencing a substance-related episode at the time.

The prosecutor’s office also suggests Payne may not have been fully conscious during the fall, based on the position of his body and the injuries sustained. A preliminary autopsy confirmed his death was due to multiple serious injuries and internal and external hemorrhaging resulting from the fall.

Prior to the fall, a hotel staff member called emergency services reporting that a guest was “overwhelmed with drugs and alcohol” and that his life was “at risk.” Authorities seized substances from Payne’s room that indicate possible alcohol and drug consumption.

While authorities believe Payne may have jumped from the balcony, the exact nature of the fall is still under investigation. They are examining witness statements and reconstructing the events leading up to the tragic incident.

Payne’s former bandmates, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, expressed their profound grief in a joint statement.

“We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam,” they said.

One Direction, formed in 2010, rose to international fame with hit songs like “What Makes You Beautiful,” “Best Song Ever,” and “Story of My Life.” They became one of the best-selling boy bands of all time, selling over 70 million records worldwide.

After Malik left the group in 2015, One Direction announced an “indefinite hiatus” in 2016, leading each member to pursue solo careers. Payne released his most recent single, “Teardrops,” in March.
