Wyoming US Senator John Barrasso recently visited Sagebrush Elementary School in Sheridan to congratulate students, teachers, and staff on their recognition as a 2024 National Blue Ribbon School, Sheridan Media reports.
This marks the third time in 15 years that the school has received this prestigious designation, awarded by the US Department of Education for being an Exemplary High Performing School.
During his visit, Barrasso praised the collective efforts of the school community.
“It’s a commitment from the teachers, the parents, and the students—a commitment to education and the future of this generation,” he said.
He added that the students’ enthusiasm and willingness to contribute to their community reflect the strong character fostered by the school.
Sagebrush Elementary Principal Justin Rohrer emphasized that the honor is a result of the school’s focus on both academics and personal development.
“We try to build well-rounded students… Academics are very important, but we also focus on making them good humans, and that’s recognized at the state and national level,” Rohrer said.
This is the third time Sagebrush Elementary has been named a National Blue Ribbon School, having previously received the award in 2009 and 2018. The school will be officially honored at a ceremony in Washington, DC, next month.
In addition to Sagebrush, several other schools in Sheridan County School District 2, including four elementary schools and Sheridan Junior High School, have also earned National Blue Ribbon status in recent years.
