A small plane crash in a residential neighborhood in Savannah on Sunday night resulted in one fatality, The Associated Press reports, citing local police.
The Savannah Police Department confirmed that officers responded to the crash site on East 66th Street, approximately three miles south of the city’s historic landmark district.
The pilot of the plane tragically lost their life in the crash, while the passenger sustained minor injuries. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported among residents on the ground.
The Savannah Professional Firefighters Association shared a photograph on Facebook depicting the mangled aircraft resting on the ground in front of a home. The crash occurred shortly before 10 p.m., according to the firefighters’ union.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
