The Wyoming State Museum will host a celebration for Indigenous Peoples’ Day on Monday, October 14th, offering a chance to honor and learn about the vibrant cultures, histories, and contributions of Native American tribes in the state.

“It’s an opportunity for people to acknowledge and celebrate the vibrant and alive cultures and traditions of Native American people in the US,” said Melisa McChesney, Curator of Community Engagement at the Wyoming State Museum.

Wyoming is home to several Indigenous tribes, but many residents may not have the opportunity to experience their cultures firsthand.

“Not a lot of people in this corner of the state always get to visit the reservations,” McChesney explained.

The museum’s celebration will feature a variety of activities, including hoop dancing performances, art workshops, and the opportunity to create “seed bombs.” The event aims to provide visitors with an interactive way to learn about the contributions of Native artists, scientists, and community members.

The Indigenous Peoples’ Day event will be held at the Wyoming State Museum from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
