  • PublishedOctober 4, 2024

Artificial intelligence (AI) is gradually becoming more prevalent among Wyoming businesses, with 4.9% of firms in the state currently using the technology, according to recent data.

Additionally, 6.5% of businesses plan to adopt AI in the near future, reflecting a growing trend across the country toward integrating AI to improve operations and efficiency.

While major tech companies like Google and Microsoft are often associated with the advancement of AI, businesses of all sizes are exploring how AI can benefit them. AI’s potential applications include automating routine tasks, streamlining operations, and enhancing customer service. For many small and local businesses, AI offers opportunities to increase productivity without significantly increasing costs.

Despite the buzz around AI, its adoption in the US remains relatively low. National data shows that only 5.5% of businesses across the country currently use AI, but the trend is on the rise, with 8.1% of firms reporting plans to implement AI in the next six months. In Wyoming, 33.3% of firms already using AI report using it to replace employee tasks, while 34.6% of businesses planning to adopt AI expect to do the same.

Wyoming’s adoption rates are slightly below the national average, but AI usage varies by industry and location. Across the US, sectors like information technology, professional services, and education are leading AI adoption, while industries such as construction, transportation, and food services lag behind. In Wyoming, the most common AI application is marketing automation.
