Wendy’s has announced a special menu offering in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the beloved animated series “SpongeBob SquarePants.”

Starting October 8, the fast-food chain will introduce the “Krabby Patty Kollab” meal, featuring a cheeseburger inspired by the show’s iconic Krabby Patty and a unique “Pineapple Under the Sea” Frosty available at its restaurants across the US and Canada for a limited time.

The Krabby Patty Kollab Burger is essentially a regular cheeseburger enhanced with an extra slice of cheese and a “top-secret” Krabby Kollab sauce. The accompanying Frosty is a vanilla treat topped with a pineapple-and-mango puree, making it a distinctive addition to Wendy’s dessert menu.

Wendy’s decision to tap into the nostalgia surrounding “SpongeBob SquarePants” aims to resonate with millennials, a demographic that holds fond memories of the show. This strategy follows a trend in the fast-food industry, where chains like Burger King are also launching promotional items, such as the “Wednesday’s Whopper” linked to the “Addams Family” animated film.

“It only makes sense that two of the most iconic squares in pop culture are teaming up,” stated Wendy’s in a statement.

Thus the company referenced both Wendy’s signature square burgers and SpongeBob’s adventures. By using existing menu items for the special promotion, the company aims to streamline operations and simplify preparation for its staff.

The Krabby Patty meal is part of a broader collaboration known as “The Krabby Patty Kollab,” which will introduce a variety of themed food items inspired by the show across more than 250 restaurants in major cities, including New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, until October 27. This initiative is part of a celebration led by Nickelodeon and Paramount, which includes the launch of new content and experiences to honor the show’s legacy.

Additionally, Wendy’s will provide an exclusive preview of the Krabby Patty Kollab meal at an immersive drive-thru experience in Panorama City, Los Angeles, on October 7 and 8, ahead of the nationwide launch.

As the fast-food industry faces challenges with declining dining out frequency and consumer spending, Wendy’s and other chains are leveraging promotions and value meals to attract customers. The effectiveness of these strategies will be evaluated in upcoming earnings reports.
