Knife Attack in Shanghai Leaves Three Dead, 15 Injured
A knife attack at a supermarket in Shanghai’s Songjiang district on Monday evening left three people dead and 15 others injured, The Associated Press reports, citing local police.
The suspect, identified as a 37-year-old man surnamed Lin, was apprehended by police responding to the incident.
Eighteen victims were transported to the hospital for treatment, with three succumbing to their injuries. Police investigations revealed that Lin, driven by personal financial disputes, traveled to Shanghai with the intent to “vent his anger.” Further investigation is ongoing.
The attack, which occurred in a suburban area southwest of Shanghai, casts a somber shadow over the upcoming weeklong National Day holidays. This incident comes on the heels of several other knife attacks in China throughout the year.
Last month, a 10-year-old Japanese student tragically lost his life after being stabbed near his school in southern China. This followed another attack at a school bus stop for a Japanese school, where a Chinese national was killed while attempting to intervene and a Japanese mother and child were injured.
