Zuckerberg Surges into $200 Billion Club, Closing in on Bezos, Arnault
Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and CEO of Meta Platforms, has joined the exclusive $200 billion club, becoming the fourth richest person in the world. His personal fortune surged by a remarkable $73.4 billion in 2024, bringing his net worth to $201 billion, according to Bloomberg’s Billionaire Index, CNN reports.
This rapid growth puts Zuckerberg hot on the heels of Jeff Bezos ($211 billion) and Bernard Arnault ($207 billion), while the only person with a higher net worth remains Elon Musk at $272 billion.
Zuckerberg’s wealth is largely tied to Meta’s stock performance. Shares of Meta (META) have seen a phenomenal rise of nearly 64% in 2024, reaching a record high of $568.31 on Wednesday. The company operates popular social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, alongside the instant messaging app WhatsApp.
Zuckerberg’s vision for the future of Meta was highlighted at the recent Meta Connect 2024 event, where he declared that Meta AI is on track to become the world’s most used assistant. “We’re almost at 500 million monthly (active users), and we haven’t even launched in some of the bigger countries yet,” he said, referencing the upcoming rollout in the European Union.
This year’s wealth gains are not limited to Zuckerberg. Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, has seen his net worth climb $62.2 billion in 2024, while Larry Ellison, co-founder of Oracle, has added $58.6 billion to his fortune.
