Maggie Smith, the iconic British actress renowned for her roles in “Harry Potter” and “Downton Abbey,” has passed away at the age of 89, Sky News reports.

Her sons, Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens, confirmed her death, sharing a statement that she died peacefully in a hospital surrounded by loved ones.

“An intensely private person, she was with friends and family at the end. She leaves two sons and five loving grandchildren who are devastated by the loss of their extraordinary mother and grandmother,” the statement read.
