Trump Says He Would Take “Different” Ukraine Approach, Questions Zelenskyy’s Requests
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has said he would take a “different” approach to Ukraine policy, questioning President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s requests for continued security assistance, Bloomberg reports.
Speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania on Monday, Trump expressed skepticism about the Ukrainian leader’s continious push for military aid.
“Zelenskyy is the greatest salesman in history – every time he comes into the country, he walks away with $60 billion,” Trump said.
Trump went on to suggest that Zelenskyy favored his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris, in the upcoming election, adding the Ukrainian President “wants her to win so badly.”
The former President pledged to push for a negotiated settlement between Ukraine and Russia if elected.
“If I win this election, the first thing I’m going to do is call up Zelenskyy and call up President Putin and I say, ‘You got to make a deal, this is crazy,'” Trump said.
Trump’s comments come as Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with Harris and President Joe Biden this week, seeking to further push for arms supplies and funding.
