Glacier National Park Trail Closed After Bear Attack on Hiker

A section of Glacier National Park’s popular Highline Trail in Montana was closed on Thursday following a bear attack that left a hiker injured, according to park officials.

The 35-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries after encountering a bear near the Grinnell Glacier Overlook trailhead. Rangers are still investigating whether the bear involved was a grizzly or a black bear.

The injured hiker, part of a larger hiking group, managed to walk more than a mile to the Granite Park Chalet with assistance before being airlifted to a hospital in Whitefish. The trail from Haystack Butte to the Granite Park Chalet will remain closed until further notice.

This incident marks the second bear attack in Montana within the last month. Despite the rare occurrence of bear attacks, officials are urging park visitors to take precautions, including hiking in groups, carrying bear spray, and making noise to alert wildlife of their presence.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the area and have not released additional information about the hiker’s identity or the extent of his injuries.
