Israeli Airstrikes Kill 16 in Gaza, Including Five Women and Four Children

Israeli airstrikes have claimed the lives of 16 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, including five women and four children, on Monday, The Associated Press reports, citing Palestinian officials.

The deadliest attack occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, leveling a home in the densely populated Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza. At least 10 people perished in the strike, including four women and two children. The Awda Hospital, which received the bodies, confirmed the toll and reported 13 additional wounded. Among the deceased were a mother, her child, and her five siblings.

A separate Israeli airstrike targeted a home in Gaza City, killing six people, including a woman and two children, according to the Civil Defense, first responders operating under the Hamas-run government.

Israel maintains that it targets only militants and accuses Hamas and other armed groups of endangering civilians by operating within residential areas. The military rarely addresses individual strikes, which often result in the deaths of women and children.

The Gaza Health Ministry has reported over 41,000 Palestinian deaths since Hamas’ October 7, 2023 attack escalated the ongoing war, nearly a year ago. The Ministry states that over half of those killed were women and children. Israel claims to have killed over 17,000 militants, but has not provided evidence to support this figure.
