Maradona Death Trial Postponed Again, Now Set for March 2025

The trial of eight health workers charged with “homicide by negligence” in the death of football legend Diego Maradona has been postponed for the second time, according to Argentine media. Originally scheduled for June 4 and then set to begin on October 1, the trial will now commence on March 11, 2025, CNN reports.

The court in San Isidro, a town near Buenos Aires, granted the request for postponement made by three of the eight defendants.

Maradona, the iconic Argentinian footballer who led his country to victory in the 1986 World Cup, died at the age of 60 in November 2020. His death was attributed to heart failure following brain surgery he underwent days earlier.

Those facing charges include Maradona’s neurosurgeon, psychologist, psychiatrist, and nurses. They could face prison sentences ranging from eight to 25 years if found guilty.
