McDonald’s Extends $5 Value Meal Offer Through December in Most US Markets
  • PublishedSeptember 12, 2024

McDonald’s has announced it will extend its popular $5 value meal promotion through December in most US markets as the fast-food giant aims to attract more budget-conscious customers.

The decision comes after franchisees voted to prolong the offer, with around 80% of local markets opting in. Additional locations may follow as votes are still ongoing.

The $5 value meal includes a choice of a McDouble or McChicken sandwich, small fries, four-piece Chicken McNuggets, and a small soft drink. This deal, initially introduced in June, has performed well, particularly among lower-income consumers. McDonald’s US President Joe Erlinger emphasized the company’s commitment to offering affordable prices.

“We’re doubling down with even more ways to save,” he said.

As inflation continues to impact consumer spending, McDonald’s and other fast-food chains, including Burger King and Starbucks, have been focusing on value-driven promotions to retain customers. McDonald’s saw a decline in second-quarter sales, prompting the company to focus on affordability to regain momentum. The $5 value meal has helped boost traffic and sales, with tens of millions sold over the summer.

McDonald’s will also roll out additional promotions in the coming months, including localized deals and offers via its mobile app. The company’s “Free Fries Fridays” promotion, where customers can get free medium fries with any $1 purchase, will continue through the end of the year. Additionally, for National Cheeseburger Day on September 18, McDonald’s will offer a 50-cent double cheeseburger through its app.

CNBC, USA Today, and Axios contributed to this report.
