NYC Commuters Face Major Delays in Lincoln Tunnel After Disabled Bus and Crash
  • PublishedSeptember 10, 2024

New York City commuters faced severe delays Tuesday morning after a disabled bus and an earlier motorcycle crash caused significant backups in the Lincoln Tunnel, New York Post reports.

The traffic snarl left many drivers stuck for up to 90 minutes during the busy rush hour.

The delays began when a bus, reportedly missing a wheel, broke down in the tunnel, causing major disruptions. PIX11 anchor Dan Mannarino shared a photo of the stalled bus on social media, showing its stranded state. At the same time, the tunnel was also dealing with the aftermath of a motorcycle crash in the center tube around 3:50 a.m. The motorcyclist involved was taken to the hospital in critical condition, according to sources.

Although police activity related to the crash was cleared by 6:15 a.m., the combined impact of the accident and the disabled bus caused traffic to back up into Hoboken. By 7:20 a.m., the Office of Emergency Management in Hoboken issued a warning about the extensive traffic.

Some commuters reported hours-long delays. FOX 5 sports anchor Tina Cervasio shared her frustration on social media, saying she had been stuck for over two hours, covering only 16 miles. Other drivers reported being trapped in their cars for extended periods, with many unable to divert due to the severe congestion.
