Israeli airstrikes targeting military sites in central Syria on Sunday night have resulted in the deaths of at least 14 people and injuries to 43 others, CNN reports, citing Syrian state-run news agency SANA.

SANA reported that multiple explosions and “air defense engagements” took place in the Tartous and Hama governorates, resulting in civilian casualties.

“The Israeli enemy launched an air aggression from the direction of northwest Lebanon, targeting a number of military sites in the central region” shortly before 8:30 p.m. local time on Sunday, a military source told SANA.

The source also claimed that Syrian air defenses intercepted and shot down some of the missiles.

The Director of the National Hospital in Masyaf, Dr. Faisal Haidar, told SANA that the death toll near the city of Masyaf in Hama governorate had risen to 14, with 43 people injured, including six in critical condition.

The strikes, SANA reported, damaged the Wadi al-Uyun highway in Masyaf and caused a blaze that firefighters are working to control.
