Rich Homie Quan, the acclaimed Atlanta rapper known for his hit singles “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” has passed away at the age of 33, The Associated Press reports.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner confirmed to The Associated Press that Quan, whose real name was Dequantes Devontay Lamar, passed away at an Atlanta hospital. The cause of death has not yet been disclosed, with an autopsy scheduled for Friday.
Rising to prominence in the mid-2010s, Quan became one of the biggest names in hip-hop, particularly after the release of his breakout single “Type of Way” in 2013. The track garnered immense popularity and led to several remixes featuring prominent artists such as Jeezy and Meek Mill.
Continuing his success, he collaborated with Jeezy on a YG track and released the hit “Lifestyle” produced by London on da Track, as part of the Rich Gang rap collective that included Young Thug and Birdman. Quan’s 2015 single “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” achieved maajor chart success, reaching No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100. He also featured in Lil Dicky’s viral sensation “$ave Dat Money.”
In 2018, Quan released his first and only studio album, “Rich as in Spirit,” which primarily showcased his solo talent, aside from the track “Think About It” featuring Rick Ross.
Following the news of his passing, numerous artists have paid tribute to Quan on social media. Quavo, Lil Boosie, and Playboi Carti were among those who honored him, with singer Jacquees expressing his grief on X.
“Rest in Peace my brother Rich Homie Quan. I love you for Life. You were a legend,” he wrote.
