English Football Fans Warn of “Enormous Opposition” to Dynamic Ticket Pricing
The Football Supporters Association (FSA) has issued a strong warning to English football clubs, stating that any attempts to introduce dynamic pricing for match tickets will be met with “enormous opposition,” Sky News reports.
The warning comes after two top Spanish clubs, Valencia and Celta Vigo, confirmed they are adopting the controversial practice for this season’s matches. Dynamic pricing sees ticket prices fluctuate based on factors such as demand, time remaining before the match, and stadium occupancy.
While there are no concrete plans to introduce dynamic pricing in English football, the FSA is concerned about the growing trend of clubs significantly increasing ticket prices, particularly based on the level of opposition.
“Never underestimate the potential for the most greedy owners in football to try and import terrible ideas from other industries to exploit supporter loyalty,” the FSA said.
The organization is also critical of the recent price hikes across 19 of the 20 Premier League clubs.
Valencia, which has the backing of Spain’s top league, La Liga, for its dynamic pricing system, has stated that ticket prices will be subject to changes based on factors such as stadium occupancy and time remaining until the match.
Celta Vigo has also confirmed that its ticket prices are “dynamic and are subject to change.”
Meanwhile, UEFA has announced that the cap on away ticket prices for Champions League matches will be lowered for this season and again for 2025-26.
