Poll Shows Biden-Harris Ticket Outpacing Trump in Voter Enthusiasm After DNC

  • PublishedSeptember 3, 2024

The Democratic National Convention appears to have had a significant impact on voter sentiment, Vice President Kamala Harris closing the enthusiasm gap with former President Trump, while Democratic confidence surges overall, Fox News reports, citing according a fresh USA Today/Suffolk University poll.

The poll, conducted August 25-28 after the convention, found Harris leading Trump 48% to 43% among likely voters, a lead within the poll’s margin of error. This represents a notable shift from previous polls, which showed a tighter race.

The swing toward Democrats also extends to down-ballot races. 48% of likely voters said they planned to vote for the Democratic candidate in their local congressional election, compared to 43% for Republicans. This represents a seven-point swing from earlier this year, when Republicans held a slight advantage.

The poll also shows a surge in confidence among Democrats. 87% of Democrats say they are confident Harris will win in November, compared to just 76% of Republicans confident in Trump’s victory. This marks a significant swing from a few weeks ago when Republicans were more confident in their candidate’s success.

Despite the shift in confidence, Trump’s campaign maintains a positive outlook, citing the former president’s history of outperforming polls. They also stress Trump’s lead on key issues like the economy (51% to 45%) and illegal immigration (50% to 47%). However, Harris holds a significant lead over Trump on abortion.
