Final August Social Security Retirement Payment Set for August 28th

Final August Social Security Retirement Payment Set for August 28th
  • PublishedAugust 28, 2024

The US government has confirmed that the Social Security retirement payment scheduled for August 28, 2024, will be the final payment for this month. As August comes to an end, beneficiaries are encouraged to review their eligibility to ensure they receive their expected payment.

Social Security retirement benefits are distributed monthly, with payment dates varying based on specific criteria. The final payment for August is reserved for retirees who began receiving benefits after May 1997 and have birthdays between the 21st and 31st of any month. Eligible recipients will receive their payment on August 28th, which may arrive on the same day if they have Direct Deposit activated. Those without Direct Deposit might experience a slight delay.

While the August 28th payment is the last retirement payment for the month, some beneficiaries might still receive an additional check before September. This additional payment is for those who qualify for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and it will be issued on August 30th due to the timing of the September payment schedule. SSI recipients typically receive their payments on the first of the month, but because September 1st is a weekend, the payment will be issued on the last business day of August.

Looking ahead to September, the Social Security Administration (SSA) will begin distributing new payments to retirees, with different groups scheduled to receive their benefits on various dates throughout the month. Those who began receiving benefits before May 1997, as well as some disability insurance recipients, will be among the first to receive payments in early September.

As always, retirees should verify their eligibility and payment dates to avoid surprises and ensure they receive the benefits to which they are entitled.
