Authorities in Clear Creek County, Colorado, are asking for the public’s help in locating ten Doberman pinscher puppies who went missing following the suspected homicide of a local dog breeder.
The body of Paul Peavey, 57, was discovered over the weekend at his home near Idaho Springs, sparking an investigation into both his death and the puppies’ disappearance. Peavey, who ran Elite European Dobermans, was last heard from on the evening of August 19. Concerned friends, who had been unable to contact him, organized a search party and discovered his body on August 24. Peavey’s body was found partially buried on his property, with no sign of the ten puppies he had been raising.
The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, is treating Peavey’s death as a homicide. The sheriff’s office has acknowledged some initial missteps in their response to the missing person report but is now fully engaged in the investigation.
The missing Doberman puppies, valued between $4,500 and $10,000 each, are a key focus of the investigation. Authorities believe the puppies may have been sold through social media or other means since August 20. The sheriff’s office is urging anyone who recently purchased a Doberman puppy in central Colorado to check for a microchip and contact them if they believe the puppy may be one of Peavey’s.
Friends and community members have expressed frustration over the initial handling of the case, noting that earlier intervention might have made a difference. Despite these concerns, the sheriff’s office is now working closely with state authorities to solve the case.
The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office has asked anyone with information about the missing puppies or Peavey’s death to contact them at 303-679-2393 or via email at crime_tips@clearcreeksheriff.us. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are committed to pursuing all leads to bring justice for Peavey and recover the missing puppies.
