Trump Says Harris Skipped Fox News Debate, Will Hold Town Hall Instead
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said that his Democratic rival Kamala Harris’ team informed his campaign she would not participate in a Fox News presidential debate scheduled for September 4, the broadcaster reports.
The debate, originally set to be held in Pennsylvania and moderated by Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, would have been the second presidential debate of the election cycle.
“I am not surprised by this development because I feel that she knows it is very difficult, at best, for her to defend her record setting Flip-Flopping on absolutely everything she once believed in, including her statements that THERE WILL BE NO FRACKING IN PENNSYLVANIA and her HORRIBLE Performance on the Border,” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform.
Trump’s willingness to debate Harris had shifted over time. While initially reluctant after President Joe Biden suspended his re-election campaign due to her not being the official Democratic candidate, Trump later agreed to face her after she secured the party’s nomination.
While Harris’ team has confirmed they are considering a second debate in October, they have publicly stated their belief in the importance of candidates engaging in public discourse, accusing Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance, of “playing games” by avoiding debates.
In lieu of the Fox News debate, Trump plans to participate in a town hall event with Fox News host Sean Hannity in Pennsylvania.
Both campaigns have confirmed their participation in a September 10 debate on ABC News and an October 1st vice presidential debate on CBS News between Minnesota Democratic Governor Tim Walz and Vance.
