A Ferris wheel at the Highfield Festival near Leipzig, Germany, caught fire on Saturday evening, injuring more than 20 people, CNN reports.
Images circulating online show two carriages engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing into the air as festivalgoers watched in horror.
According to a statement from Saxony police, the fire erupted shortly after 9 p.m. local time, with the cause currently under investigation.
Four individuals sustained burn injuries as a result of the incident, while another person was treated for injuries sustained from falling.
A total of 18 people, including first responders, police officers, and others who were on the ride, were taken to hospitals for medical treatment due to smoke inhalation.
The scene of the incident has been cordoned off as police conduct their investigation.
German rapper Ski Aggu, who was performing on stage at the time of the fire, expressed his shock and dismay on his Instagram stories. He stated that he was instructed to continue his performance to avoid mass panic.
The incident has shaken the festival, and authorities are working to determine the cause of the fire and ensure the safety of all attendees.
