Bebe Rexha Claims Lufthansa Worker Threatened Her Due to Her Albanian Origin
Pop star Bebe Rexha has accused a Lufthansa airline worker of threatening her due to her Albanian heritage, prompting an investigation by the airline, CNN reports.
In posts on her Instagram story on Saturday, Rexha, who was born in the United States to Albanian parents, wrote:
“Lufthansa, I’ve been threatened because I thought the security agent was Albanian. I spoke to him in Albanian asking where to get my ticket and now he is banning me from the flight.”
Rexha alleged that the worker continued to “mentally abuse” her and claimed that no other Lufthansa staff intervened.
“I believe this to be a hate crime because I am Albanian,” she added.
The singer-songwriter expressed her emotional distress, stating that she has “never been so emotionally drained.” She urged Lufthansa to conduct a “full investigation” despite the airline messaging her directly.
In a statement to the broadcaster, a Lufthansa spokesperson said:
“We directly contacted Bebe Rexha yesterday to understand the situation and are conducting an internal review on the matter.”
The spokesperson added that the airline does not “tolerate any discriminatory behavior of any kind.”
Lufthansa confirmed that Rexha boarded her flight normally and on time.
Rexha achieved fame with the country pop hit “Meant to Be” in 2017 and has since released popular songs including “Me, Myself & I,” “In the Name of Love,” and the 2022 UK chart-topper “I’m Good (Blue).”
