Susan Wojcicki, the former CEO of YouTube and a key figure in the early days of Google, has died at the age of 56 after a battle with lung cancer, CNN reports, citing the husband of the deceased.

“It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki passing. My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non-small cell lung cancer,” Dennis Troper said on Facebook.

Wojcicki was a trailblazer in the tech industry, joining Google as its 16th employee when the company was still in its infancy. She played a crucial role in the growth of YouTube, leading the platform for nine years and navigating it through significant challenges, including the rise of social media and issues related to online content regulation.

Tributes poured in from colleagues and industry leaders, including Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who acknowledged her immense impact on the company and the broader tech landscape.

Pichai described her as a brilliant leader and a dear friend, reflecting on her contributions and the personal connections she forged during her career.

Wojcicki announced her decision to step down from her role at YouTube in early 2023, citing a desire to focus on her health and family, and she expressed pride in the achievements of the platform.
