Adriana Ruano Oliva, a 29-year-old athlete, scored the award in the women’s shooting trap final at the Paris Olympic Games, establishing a new Olympic record of 45 hits.

Oliva’s victory is particularly significant as she became the first woman in her country’s history to win a medal at the Olympic Games. Besides, her spinal injury of 2011, which prevented Ruano’s training for her Olympic dream as a gymnast, has led her to becoming the victor in shooting.

Italy’s athlete Silvana Maria Stanco followed Ruano with the silver medal and a score of 40 points, while shooter Penny Smith from Australia took the bronze.

Guatemala also celebrates its second medal at the Paris Summer Games, following the bronze given to Jean Pierre Brol’s in the men’s trap on July 31.

The Paris Olympics are set to last from July 26 to August 11.
